4. GM pets

Animals can be genetically modified so they have interesting traits such as tiny size, large ears and being glow-in-the-dark!!

Should we modify animals just so we can have fun pets?

  1. Some pets have been genetically modified for the delight of the owners, like the micro pigs, they are small pig that have been modified for humans, were made small for the customers own delight. When they made they can also choose the pattern, the colour and the number of spots. There is a price for all of this, £100,000 for a creation fee, £1,000 to get it and £500 for 3kg of food.

Some say that the process when it is being modified causes high levels of harm to the animal. Each year an average of 25 pets get killed or get serious injuries from being genetically modified. Some of the modified pets can get side affects like: not being able to walk, losing all fur, not being able to see and having spasms.

There is another well known genetically modified pet, it's called the glofish, it was the first known pet to be genetically modified. The glofish has been made for the humans delight, it comes in 8 different colours, the made them the colours by injecting dye into them.

These are the reasons I am against GM pets

  4. Micro pig. They have been modified so they are smaller and weigh less, and that would be changing who they are . They were the size of a schnauzer. It was just a normal piglet or pig that you would find on a farm.

Glow fish. They don't live as long as normal fish and have been dyed to glow in the dark and they fade. They are banned in some places. They are NOT good for the environment, and you need to put much more attention on them.

I believe that you shouldn't be able to genetically modify pets or any animals.
Lots of animals die or get injured during the process of modifying there DNA. So overall, this is a bad idea. And any pet that is modified will most likely have a problem in the future. It could get so popular to modify pets that normal pets will be abandoned and not loved and then pet keepers will not sell and not have a job. This could affect lots of things in the future and would bring lots of pet shops to an end (full circle complete).

    1. GM pets are a great idea because if your pet is dying you can save its life by modifying it to something thats small so that it can live a longer life. if you have a glofish you could use it each night as a night light instead of wasting power so it helps your parents as well to save money on power bills yes you could just get normal fish that glow but they 1 don’t glow as good and 2 don’t have all the cool glow in the dark colours.

modifying pets is a great idea for helping pets grow into big fat animals so there is more to eat in some counties that don’t have much food as other counties. Micro pigs are great small or big for if they are small you use less money to pay for food because they don’t eat as much as big pigs but you could also have it really big so they eat lots of leftover food.

Who thinks their pet is boring and plain well now you can thank scientists for they have a way to change that by Genetically Modifying your pet. You can change your pet to make it big, small, huge or glow in the dark. normal farm pigs usually weigh round 100kg but now you can shrink those big animals to tiny cute patable ones. You could also change the size of your christmas dinner to a rather large meal for more people to eat.

some dogs have been breed to have flat faces as if its run into a door or wall but these dogs with flat faces can have breathing problems with this amazing substance that scientists have come up with they can change these dogs so that they live a better longer life.

Some people say that this substance will improve animal breeding methods and cause less suffering people say that it can also help disable children or even disabled adults keep their selves occupied during the day. So I say i’m all for GM pets.

    1. I understand about the saving life part but I don't understand why we need to modify about pets because it can gert them and it can change there life. So modifying pets is a bad idea.

  7. Modifying pet's is a bad idea!!!

I think glo fish are a bad idea because they are dyed so they glo and you can just get normal fish that do the same thing as glo fish. Another reason would be if the glo fish are in your room and your trying to get to sleep but you can't because they are gloing. In some places the glo fish are banned because they are bad for the environment also some people say that glo fish are a bad idea.
Modifying pet's is a bad idea too because it can here them and it will affect their lives too. I'm my opinion non modified pets are better thank modified pets.
There is this pig who is an adult but he is modified to be a smaller and cutter pig. Do you think that is right? I don't that is for sure

    Think before you modify pets!!

    1. I agree because glow fish and a normal fish do the same things and same personality, and it would be cheaper to get a normal fish breed that you want than a more expensive glow fish that just glows in the dark.

  8. When you can modify the DNA in animals. GM pet is fine with me and some other people because we will be able to have a bigger meat supplies for third world countries because we can be able to make bigger animals to produce more meat so everyone can eat. also we can GM dog so they do not drop hair on the carpet.

It will be helpful to produce new medicines for different diseases, ie breast cancer and we will be able to me farm animals to survive in extreme hot and cold temperatures like alaska and antarctica.

  9. We have genetically modified animals for many years by selective breeding (choosing to mate animals with certain characteristics in the hope that they will inherit the characteristics we want). We have created many breeds of dogs (and cats) with health problems - breathing difficulties, bad hips etc. Any genetic modification that can be passed on to generations will affect the gene pool of that animal - it's not a thing you can reverse...
